Afternoon of music at Margam Orangery

An afternoon of music was held by LARS on the 2nd September 2018, at the stunning Margam Orangery to showcase its singers.  Guest artistes were the brilliant young violinist Charlie Lovell-Jones and Crescendo Youth Choir under the baton of Kathryn Blight.  Charlie was accompanied by his father Simon Lovell-Jones and the choir by Rhian Davies.  The afternoon was skilfully hosted by LARS Music Ambassador Mark Llewelyn Evans.
The LARS singers gave very impressive performances, in order of appearances: Neve Summers, Jack Owens, Sydney Richards, Callum Howells, Daisy Owens, Osian Clarke and Lauren Fisher.  The musical Advisors for LARS Catrin Hughes, Andrew Pike and Stewart Roberts doubled up on the day as accompanists and were stalwart in their support for the young singers.
Special guests of LARS included Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant Mr Byron Lewis and Mrs Hilary Lewis, The High Sheriff of West Glamorgan Mr Henry Gilbert and Mrs Lyn Gilbert, The Lord Mayor and Mayoress of the City and County of Swansea and His Worshipful the Mayor and the Mayoress of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.
The music fraternity was also very well represented and included the musical directors of Pontarddulais Male Choir, Morriston Orpheus Male Choir, Morriston RFC Male Choir who is also accompanist to Dunvant Male Choir, Pendyrus Male Choir, Lleisiau’r Cwm, Crescendo Youth Choir and the chairman of Kenfig Hill Male Choir.

A note to congratulate you and the LARS team on an outstandingly successful event yesterday. It was in all respects an impressive performance, and I am certain that the high reputatIon of LARS will have been elevated even further. I am pleased that Mark Llewellyn Evans mentioned ‘s-Hertogenbosch; involvement in this important international connection is of course a tremendous ‘feather in the cap’ for LARS, and we are delighted that you are returning with us again this year, and look forward to it very much. Well done and thank you.

So lovely to be involved and I enjoyed myself as well! You must be absolutely delighted at how well it went – so many lovely and appreciative comments from people I spoke to. I think an annual event at Margam would go down very well indeed!

What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. We all (they were 14 on the bus!) thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It has been a while since I’ve heard Charlie Lovell Jones. What a talent, and it seems so effortless.

Hywel:
Just a quick line to say that we thought that the concert was ‘first class’. The LARS performers were all excellent and a credit to their musical advisors. I think it was a great venue for the audience to appreciate what good voices that the LARS singers have and they all came over brilliantly. Well done again to all involved and I think we have definitely made some more ‘friends’ along the today.
Carol:
