LARS during lockdown

As is evident to us all by now, we have had to cancel all plans for any events. We’re still not sure as to when we can resume our planning, but we are certainly thinking on terms of some time from next Spring onwards – that’s as things stand now.

But. And there is a but! New circumstances have given us new challenges and new opportunities to be creative. The NHS video showed that clearly. It had an overwhelming response. The events might have stopped but the music goes on!

Thank you for your continued Support of LARS.

St David’s Concert

Three of our LARS stars have been invited to appear in the joint Theatrau Sir Gar (Carmarthenshire Theatre’s)  / Loud Applause Productions St David’s Day Concert this year. Lauren Fisher, Osian Clark and Samuel Wyn-Morris have been invited as the recipients of Carmarthenshire County Council’s Certificate of Excellence in the Cultural Awards 2020. They were the three recipients in the Music Category.

This years’  concert to commemorate our patron saint will be different to usual of course. There will not be a concert, but the contributors will all be filmed on the Ffwrnes Theatre stage with the event shown on the Theatrau Sir Gar website. In addition to the three from LARS, Royal harpist Alis Huws will be performing and there are contributions from guest reader, Hollywood actor Julian Lewis Jones – also known for being Karl in the TV comedy series Stella.

Keep an eye out for the links to this event on this website and Theatrau Sir Gars’s website

Past Events

Saturday 21st March

Masterclass with international baritone Gary Griffiths

The Masterclass will be held at Athenaeum Hall at Llanelli in the Library on Saturday 21st March 2019, This elegant spacious hall on the top floor of the library is perfectly suited for this event with a grand piano and comfortable seating.

“In a master class, all the students (and listeners) watch and listen as the master takes one student at a time. The student usually performs a single piece which they have prepared, and the master will give them advice on how to perform it, often including anecdotes about the composer, how to perform certain phrases and admonitions of common technical errors. The student is then usually expected to perform the piece again, in light of the master’s comments.”

Doors open at 1.45 pm for a 2 pm start. It will end at approximately 4.30 pm which includes interval and refreshments.

The very popular annual Gala Concert of Loud Applause Productions will once again feature a plethora of musical talent.

Sharing the stage with the Loud Applause Rising Stars (LARS) singers will be West End Star Samantha Thomas who recently appeared in ‘Wicked’, the very popular Kenfig Hill and District Male Voice Choir, the delightful sounds of the Halfway Primary School Choir and hosting the concert for the very first time will be Samuel Wyn- Morris.  Supporting accompanists to the LARS singers will be Catrin Hughes and Andrew Pike.

LARS is fast becoming a recognised home for highly talented singers.  Currently it has 14 singers aged between 14 and 23 years old performing all genres of music.  In its short history LARS has given opportunities for its members to perform not only at home but also internationally.  Often its members are heard on S4C programmes, radio and as guest artists at a range of musical events from big gala concerts to private functions.

A Feast of Music

Gwŷl Cerdd Dant Cymru this year is being held in Llanelli and fundraising is gathering up speed to ensure its success. The Chair of the Gwŷl Cerdd Dant Llanelli a’r Cylch is Catrin Hughes, who is also a music advisor and trustee of Loud Applause Rising Stars (LARS) charity. In support of their fundraising LARS is organising a big Gala Concert at Llanelli’s Greenfield Baptist Church on Friday 12th July.

The evening offers a feast of choral music and there will be 4 choirs: Côr Lleisiau’r Cwm and Harmoni both under the baton of Catrin Hughes, Côr Meibion Llanelli and Côr Ysgol Dewi Sant. Also it will feature some excellent young soloists including tenor Osian Bowen from Burry Port, now studying at the RWCMD in Cardiff and 4 singers of LARS who are all pupils of Ysgol Y Strade: Lauren Fisher, James Oakley, Daisy Owens and Jack Owens. They will be accompanied by Catrin Hughes and Andrew Pike.

We are anticipating a big demand for tickets which are available from choir members, Cadno Music in John Street, Llanelli or contacting [email protected] or Cerith Owens 07854 303918.
