Osian is 21 years old and is a former Head Boy at Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford. He is currently in his third year of studies at the very prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London, where he is studying a BMus degree course in Vocal Performance and Opera Studies under the tuition of tenor Ryland Davies.
His ambition is to become a professional singer and his recent successes and experiences will certainly help him along the way. Through LARS he has been able to significantly develop his solo singing opportunities, being much in demand as a soloist. He has performed at many prestigious events: he has sung alongside the Morriston Orpheus choir on three occasions: in Llanelli’s Ffwrnes Theatre, in All Saints Oystermouth and in Dinas Powys. A highlight was performing as one of the LARS soloists at the prestigious WW2 Liberation Concert in the city of s’Hertogenbosch, Holland in 2018.
Osian attended the Junior Conservatoire at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff and won a major competition there – ‘The Betty Richards’ prize.
As part of the Cardiff Singer of the World week Osian was selected for a masterclass by Dame Felicity Lott at the Dora Stoutzker Concert Hall at the RWCMD. His accompanist for the Masterclass was none other than Llŷr Williams.
As well as his solo work, Osian has always had a passion for performing and has taken part in many youth productions including playing Marius in Les Misèrables, Danny in Grease, Link in Hairspray, Horton in Seussical and Mr Warbucks in Annie.
A highlight for Osian as a young performer was successfully auditioning for the Urdd production of Les Misèrables, securing the part of Courfeyrac in the show. It ran for five performances at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff and he performed on the West End stage as part of the show’s 30th Anniversary celebrations.
Osian is a regular performer at many of LARS’ annual events such as ‘Night with the Stars’ in Ffwrnes Theatre, Christmas Soirées and at Margam Orangery.
In 2019 he was the recipient of the inaugural Cronfa’r Utgorn Bursary which is awarded to very talented young musicians. He has appeared on S4C’s Heno and Noson Lawen programmes, and was a guest soloist on Rhys Meirion’s 20th Anniversary Tour.
As part of his studies in London Osian gets the chance to regularly perform both as part of the first and second year’s ensemble concerts and as a soloist in Performance Platforms. These have taken place in Duke’s Hall, David Josefowitz Recital Hall, Angela Burgess Recital Hall and the Henry Wood Room. Osian has completed many music exams including Grade 5 Piano, Grade 5 Theory, Grade 8 Musical Theatre and a Diploma in Classical singing (where he scored 100%).
Osian has received three Friends of LARS bursaries, a St Elli Lodge bursary and a Cronfa’r Utgorn bursary.
