Hywel Houghton-Jones
Now retired, Hywel has 45 years business experience primarily gained in global procurement from Canada to Korea. Much of this was gained with Anglo – American companies as diverse as Johnson and Johnson, Scott Paper, American Medical International and the Lawson Mardon Group. European companies include Grand Met Foods Group, Kent County Council, and Nationwide.
With extensive logistics and supply chain management experience he has participated in three Parliamentary fact -finding missions on international trade, to Hong Kong/China, Singapore, and Japan. He was also on the Institute of Purchasing and Supply selection panel for the Buyer of the Year Award, and a frequent speaker at trade events in Europe and Dubai.
Brought up in Pwll, his principal interests are rugby (a qualified R F U coach) and the performing arts, especially music. He is a partner of the Wales Millennium Centre, and a friend of WNO, the Royal Opera House, Glyndebourne, Garsington, and Grange Park Opera. The family also supports the National Theatre, RSC, the Bridge and Hampstead theatres, and the Old Vic.
Since returning to Llanelli, he has become the elected Peoples’ Warden for the Local Ministry Area of Bro Lliedi, and hence a trustee for six local churches (St. Elli, St. Peter’s, Felinfoel, Dafen, Llangennech, and Llwynhendy). He is also a trustee of the Llanelli Grammar School and Graig Comprehensive Former Pupils’ Association.
