Ambassador Mark Llewelyn Evans is well aware of how important nurturing young talent. His mother “Liz the Lyric” believed that the arts inspired and empowered children, and so set about saving the Lyric Theatre in Carmarthen, so that children could have a platform to shine just as we do at LARS.
As a young boy Mark`s dream was not to become an opera singer but a chef, but after being heard and encouraged by the great Sir Geraint Evans the stage soon beckoned. Mark has conquered many prestigious opera stages and concert venues around the globe singing title roles for the Welsh National Opera, Royal Opera etc. Although trained classically at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and at the National Opera Studio in London Mark`s career has been diverse and exciting.
Mark was very proud to record a single with the Band of the Welsh Guards which became a number one benefitting the Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal. As well as Mark`s singing and acting he has presented for BBC Radio Wales, hosted The Duke of Edinburgh’s International World Fellowship Awards, St David’s Day Celebrations in Singapore, National Film Awards and an Evening with David Blaine in Naples, Florida.
Mark is the Artistic Director for Opera Sark as well as Artistic Director of ABC of Opera a project that empowers children through opera in a fun, friendly and rewarding way. Mark has just completed his first children’s book BAAROCK which will be available from February 2019. To find out more about ABC of Opera contact [email protected]
