Lauren Williams is one of LARS’ most recent members. She is a soprano from Glynneath who has achieved a great deal musically, despite her young age, due to her dedication, commitment and vocal abilities.  She is also a member of the Welsh National Youth Opera and has regularly performed with them in many lead roles and will yet again take centre stage at their up and coming opera the Black Spider.

Lauren is a popular soloist and regularly performs in concert as a guest artist under the auspices of LARS. Earlier this year she sang with Peter Karrie in concert.  In March this year, she performed at the Swansea Bay Business Awards and was the main artist at the Swansea Valley Rotary Club’s 50th Anniversary celebrations in December.

A big part of her musical life was as a member of the Hywel Girls’ Choir and Hywel Boy Singers and Angelicus Celtis, who she joined on a scholarship programme at the age of 11. She soon became a senior soloist in both choirs appearing alongside artists such as Leslie Garret, Gary Griffiths, Wynne Evans, and Aled Jones and appearing in such venues as The Royal Albert Hall, Brangwyn Hall, the House of Lords and with the Chelsea Pensioners.

Lauren has taken part in Television and Radio performances. She has performed for HRH the Earl of Wessex as part of a celebration of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards at the Millennium Centre Cardiff, also many VIP performances for HRH Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Lauren recently received an invitation for her fourth consecutive ABRSM High Scorers concert, having scored an unprecedented 100% in her recent grade. In 2017 she was awarded the Jeffrey Squires Memorial Award by ABRSM.

Lauren has been successful in many competitions and has previously been a runner up at District Finals of the Rotary Young Musicians Competition held in Blackwood.  Furthermore, Lauren has won the Neath Young Singer of the Year award twice. Also, she has won for 3 years running the musician and performer of the year with her school and was awarded her schools’ highest award this year, namely The Eirion Richards Award for Contribution to School Life and for achievements both Academically and Musically.

Lauren has recently competed in the Dunvant Young Singer of the Year Award and was selected as a finalist, and will perform in the Gala Concert later in the year to compete in the final.

Lauren hopes to continue her studies with a confirmed offer from Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) to study on the Vocal and Opera Studies Course with the dream very much to become a successful classical singer.
